Final blog

Although I have not come to class as much as I would have liked to or should have, I still feel those times that I did come, had significant impact on me. The fear assignment was the project that challenged me the most, and I am very grateful for that assignment, because in a way I think it will better prepare me for overcoming a fear that I believe will be a big part of m future-speaking publicly before people. Since that assignment I have had and taken advantage of several opportunities to speak publicly. I have approached those opportunities as times to exercise my ability to face my fear head on. Those times have included speaking before people during sessions at church, speaking as the best man at my cousins wedding, and I just started leading a bible study. So the fear project really has pushed me into overcoming my fear and becoming more comfortable in speaking publicly. I hope to become more and more comfortable to the point where it is no longer a fear but second nature-then we can go on the the next fear and overcome that one (which ever it may be) next!

Response 4-19-2010

I feel really bad for not comming to class. I just have been so bombarded with work and projects, that my time has gotten away from me. I have been doing each assignment and have enjoyed most of the times that I did come out to the actual classroom. I hope to come for the remainder of the semester...

See and look

There is a difference between looking and seeing. I think that seeing is something done with less intent on the part of the viewer. If your eyes are open and you are not blind you will see something-you really dont have a choice. But to look requires intent, energy and focus. When you are looking, you are trying to "see" something specific, not just seeing whatever passes by,buy "seeing" with a purpose is what Ill call it. I see the tree and the gravel when I walk to class, but I'm looking for a woman to call my wife-there is a major difference.

Who am I

I am someone who has discovered their passion. I am someone who is in transition from boy to manhood. I want to be someone who is a reflection of Christ Jesus or Yashua (Joshua). I am a believe in Jesus Christ, and hope to become a person who shares their faith openly, without fear and regardless of the consequences or penalties that may come along with that. Many I would say know the real me to an extend. someone times my personality and mood really relay on the people, atmosphere and surroundings. I hope to make a career doing what I love, where each day I get up I dont agonize over going to work, but I look forward to it!

The Fear Experiment Experiment & Results

Date: 3-28-2010 originally posted

Fear is...

Fear is a preventer.
Fear is a prison owner.
Fear is a opportunity not taken.
Fear is a thief.
Fear is a destroyer.
Fear is doubt all grown up.
Fear is a tormenter.
Fear is an isolator and a devastator.

Fear prevents many from pursuing their lives goals and ambitions.
Fear holds millions captive by it's tormentive ability.
Fear Kills; it kills dreams, plans, and even people (literally).
Fear is the the enemy of hope
the thief of peace,
and the murderer of risk.
Fear of the unknown prones us fear more.
fear is the robber of "what could have been".
Fear is strong in the hands of the permissive but weak in the hands of the brave.

It is your choice;
Will you let fear rule you, or will you overcome it?

The experiment:

Survey on Fear.

Questions that will be asked on the survey:

1. Do you fear public speaking?
2. If you had to choose between giving a speech in front of 25 students or 1000, which one would it be?
3. Do you get really nervous before the speech? (Sweaty palms, sweaty pits and a dry mouth?)
4. Why do you think public speaking makes you so afraid/nervous, or people in general? What do you think is that root of your fear?
5. Do you agree with this statement, "People fear public speaking more than death."

Predicted reactions:

Although I can not predict the exact answers that will be submitted, I do predict that there will be commonalities between the answers: There will be more similarities than differences.

1. Most people will be afraid of public speaking.
2. Most do get nervous before making a speech/presentation.
3. The root of fear, is the fear of being judged by others.

Date: 3-30-2010 Response

Actual Reactions:

The class was very receptive to the survey. Here are the statistical results of the survey:

1. Do you fear public speaking?

5/11- Yes
6/11- No

2. If you had to choose between giving a speech in front of 25 students or 1000, which one would it be?

4/11- 25 Students
2/11- 1000 Students
5/11- Does not make a difference

3. Do you get really nervous before the speech? (Sweaty palms, sweaty pits and a dry mouth?)

9/11- Yes
2/11- No

4. Why do you think public speaking makes you so afraid/nervous, or people in general? What do you think is that root of your fear?

Overall answer: Fear of what people will think and of failing.

5. Do you agree with this statement, "People fear public speaking more than death."

10/11- Yes
1/11- No

These results are extremely surprising to me. I am shocked that most answers reveal that people are not afraid of public speaking, at least not the people in the this class. But most did agree with the statement:
"People fear public speaking more than death." 10/11 agreed. I really thought the majority would be afraid of public speaking, but was I wrong.

This reaction was a combination of what I expected and what I did not expect.

My reaction to the false eye:

The greatest reaction I have had overall was the experiment given by the student with only one eye. That really stuck with me not only because of the shock of it (having a fake eye) but also just the risk he took in sharing such a sensitive part of himself with everyone. That showed such vulnerability. Even to have some people turn away when he took it out (me included) showed courage and again vulnerability. That is very admirable. I have gained not only respect for him but also for many of the other students in the classroom who made themselves opened to us.

-This project has also allowed me to open up to others more easily.

-It has caused me to self-confront one of my fears of speaking in front of others (even though it was a short time)

-I was able to feel more comfortable with expressing my ideas through conversation times

-This project birthed a new disgust within me that I have carried for the fear of verbal
communication and
expression

-I think this new disgust of this fear will cause me to desire even more to confront and overcome it at every given opportunity and even to create opportunities for myself to exercise the
overcomming of this fear

3-28-10 Reactions

WOW! Class Monday was really something. It was very eye opening and left me in a very unsettled place. I also feel like a new sense of openness has developed in the class as a result of the personal revelations that were shared from certain individuals. I think many have made themselves vulnerable, which is and extremely admirable quality. I had only wish I spoken during the "religious" portion of the conversation. I hope with this next assignment, dealing with personal identity, will enable me to incorporate, reveal and express my personal views on "religion" and spirituality. I am greatful for being present.

The experiment:

Facing one of my greatest fears. The fear of :

PUBLIC SPEAKING!!!!

1. I plan to give a speech next week, talking about myself, and others (really people in general) in regards to why we fear this activity so much!

Prediction of behaviors from the class:

Negatives Reactions:

1. I predict some will become board and uninterested
2. I think some may not even care at all about what I talk about

(These reactions are really what my fear of public speaking roots from)

Positive Reactions:

1. They will be interested and active listeners in what I says.
2. Someone that I say will be useful to them and will help them in some way.

Ill post back again next week to put up what actually happens!!! Till then....

class response 3-1-2010

Seeing that we don't have an assignment this week I wonder what went on in class?? All I can think about is that last assignment and how difficult it was and what gets me most is that Im not sure if I did it right? If I really met the requirements of the assignment, BUT I DID TRY! I will go and look to some of the other students projects to see what they came up with.

I will finally be able to come to class since I got the parking issue resolved. All I had to do was charge the amount to my busar account and they are shipping me a pass for the remainder of the semester! Now ill be able to go to all of my class without worrying about having to be towed again! YES! IM really glad about it and plan on being in next class, at least for the first half : )

Class Response

Unfortantly I did not make it to class again on Monday due to parking. The parking situation is IUPUI is rediculous and is soo frustrating! It is so crazy in fact my professor in business law was very upset about it last week. He went and checked all over the campus and saw many of the "A" parking spots empty while student parking were over loaded and not to mention the parking lot that the constructions workers are taking up which gives us even more space to park at, NOT! lol. And not to mention those who dont have a parking pass and can nly park on the street (NOT BETWEEN 4-6pm OR VIOLATORS WILL BE TOWED!) I dont know what else to do and I dont want to get my car towed again either!

Well im off to start reading for the next class assignment, and hopefully Ill make it to class one of these days!

BLISS, SWEET BLISS!

Bliss! A wonderful gifts life grants us! There are several activities that I would consider blissful, some I practice on a regular basis and others that I have yet to experience! The bliss that I decided to do for this assignment was to spend some time recording music with my keyboard and computer. I have been playing the piano since middle school, but I am not really that great by any means. I have just been studying it trying to develope my skill. I can spend all day long playing if I had the time! The program I use is called garageband. usually when I record a song i feel that I have broken an unspoken rule: that you do not use all the tracks given to you. IN the software you are alloted a certain number of tracks. on each track you can record a differnt instrumnet or sound. When i create music I usually hear one sound after another of another and many times end up using ALL 50 some tracks! wow. most produers and musicans only use about 20 or so, but no matter what I always end up using all of the tracks and get the message on the screen: "the track amount has been maximized." Its frustrating sometime because there are other ideas I want to add to the song but I can. That m broken rule! : )

Ill have to find a program that allows unlimted number os tracks so that my ideas and creative juices will not be stifled or hindered during that time of creative BLISS!

2-08-2010 Response

Class yesterday was def out of the box ! I dont think I have ever had a class in the dark, EVER in my years since I was a kid. I appreciate the approach the last is taking, really trying to expand our minds to think more creatively. I want to try and think more "out of the "box" I think by doing that it will help me in other areas of my life, in my designs and music primarily. The world of creativity is a place I want to dwelve and get lost in. I love to create something from a thought. The next assignment does seem like a bit of a challgene, and Im not to sure what I will come up with next!

CROP CIRCLES

CROP, CROP, CROP CIRCLES
Wierd, strange, beautiful?

Crop circles....WOW!! AMAZING! Honestly, I didnt even know what one was until i pulled up a pictures on googles, the day this assignment was posted. I didnt even know that they existed outside of the movie that Mel Gibson played in call "Signs".

In this blog im going to just talk about the top 3 thoughts and the two strongest emotions/feelings attached to that thought, that come to my mind when I look at the picture of the crop circle:

First Thought:

1. The movie "Signs &$6#@(" with Mel Gibson.

a. An Eerieness b/c of aliens in the movie.
b. A deep Sadness b/c of the movie's dark tones.

Thought #2:

2. The video "Legend of Zelda: Orcarina of Time".

a. I love, love, LOVE that game, its my favorite game
of all time, so my first emotion would be LOVE for the game Zelda.

b. Fascination. Because the game centered around an object known as the sacred Triforce
(a mythical triangular object created by the three Golden Goddesses Nayru, Din, and Farore;
composed of three triangular golden shards representing: wisdom, power, and courage)
Thought #3:

3. The outer ring designs makes me think of the Mayan Culture.

a. Inspiration. I really admire the design of the mayans, I like the look of the
drawing, symbols, and styles used in their culture, their art, etc.

b. Greed. The mayan design also makes me think of the movie "Road to Eldorado", the disney movie.
It was about discovering the city of gold!! Everyone was after the GOLD!!!! and wanted as much of it
as they could get, GREED!

02.01.2010 Recap

FALLEN

Again, I did not make it to class. I had fallen behind in some other classes and had to get an assignment in that took a little bit longer than I had anticipated. I finally am getting caught on my assignments and I def will plan on being in class next week! Not to kiss butt but the teacher sounds really fun and out of the box just from the assignment post ad such and kinda makes me wanna to come check out the class cause it sounds fun!
I also have a small pro with parking. I park along the street by the madam walker theatre but there is no parking there between 4-6pm and the class is from 3-5:45! Ive had my car towed once before and had to pay like 170.00 to get it out of the impound lot (which is 10.00 shy of my car payment! YIKES!) but Ill have to figure something out cause I really dnt wana miss anymore classes and Im really interested to seeing what this class is like in person! G

p.s I hope this will count toward the assignment 2.10.2010 class recap??

Class 1 Review

Class 1 Review:

5 Rules

5 Rules that I hate:

1. If you consume more than you eat, you gain weight.

2. The medicine industry only sales temporary treatments, but wont sell us the cures.

3. You have to renew your liscene plate each and every year.

4. Humans Can not fly.

5. You have to learn what you wanna know, instead of knowing without having to learn.

5 Rules I wish Existed:

1. College Studnts do not have to take classes that do not directly relate to their degree/career
field.

2. You can add as much time to your day as you need/wish.

3. College education would be completly free to those with highschool diplomas.

4. You only have to get gas once and you never have to fill up again!!!

5. 40 hour weeks are cut down to 10 hours with the exact same pay and with the option to work
up to 40 hours per week, mkaing overtime!

A simple complexity

The egg is probably the most common object world wide. We use it to nourish ourselves in a variety of ways : scrambled eggs, deviled eggs, cakes, batters, desserts, eggs are used in almost every recipe if you think about it. But when we look closer at it we see the complexity of its composition.

This is extremely fascinating to me!

Something that seems so simple has been fashioned and carefully composed. I believe this object, one of several million, was knitted together by an intelligent creator, God himself. Being able to view this diagram of the egg gives us further insight into the mind of the god; it gives us insight into his thought process and how he fit this together perfectly. His brilliance, organization and complex mind, at least a small part of those characteristics are displayed in this diagram! The egg is composed of the Shell, the membranes, the chalazae, the air cell, the inner and outer thick Albumen, the yolk membrane, and the yoke itself. All 8 parts serving in their roles to make an egg an egg!

And again, this is only one creation of a almost endless list: beans, vegetables, rice, grain, fruit, and thats just some foods! What about living things like bird, trees, the human eye, babies, cows, roaches, zebras, dogs, the brain, us??? The things we look at everyday that seem so super simple are extremely super complex in their structure, created to function in perfect order by an intelligent and CREATIVE designer.
